Multilateral surveillance systems (MSS) based on multipositional (multilateration) ADS-B technologies are actively used as high-precision information sources about air situation in airport, airfield and route areas of ATC.
MERA MSS by VNIIRA is designed to meet all up-to-date requirements of air surveillance systems. The system can be mounted both at small and at large airports, as well as in places with rugged topography (buildings, mountains, etc.).
“MERA” MSS is designed in two versions:
- To operate on the airport surface and at approaches to it (A-SGMCS).
- Wide area MSS (WAM).
“MERA” MSS made by VNIIRA is the perspective surveillance facility:
- High accuracy of the AC coordinates measurement especially at large distances
- Low costs for installation and minimum operation costs
- Use of all existing modes: A, C, S, ES.
- Small size combined with energy low consumption and use of different power sources
- Easily extendable and updateable platform
- Detection of failures (local and at a distance) and their diagnostics
- High reliability and guaranteed quality of operation
THE MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ACTIVE MSS AND MSSR MODE S
- Equipment: distributed pattern, absence of rotating antenna
- Cost for MSS (6-8 stations) equipment is lower. BUT cost of objects can dramatically increase if there is no ready-made infrastructure;
- Characteristics: the update rate is lower (up to 1 sec.), high accuracy at large distances
- Antennas with wide copular patterns in horizontal plane and absence of antenna side-lobe blanking on request.
